Norman Public Schools is excited to announce an upcoming event designed to help parents and caregivers learn more about preparing their children for pre-k and kindergarten. The School Readiness Parent Café offers families a friendly, relaxed setting to bring any school-entry questions to be answered, and to learn how to best support their child’s growth and confidence before the first day of school.

“This event is really about easing the worries that families may have,” Jaylynn Richardson, Early Childhood/Elementary Programs Coordinator, said. “We know that sometimes parents wonder if their child is ready for school, and want to be confident that they will be successful. The Parent Café gives us a chance to ease those concerns, share helpful tools and help families learn what the process for pre-k or kindergarten enrollment will look like  so they can feel confident and supported.”

This relaxed, come-and-go event will address common questions and provide insights into key topics, including:

  • Essential skills for a strong start in school (such as social-emotional development, independence, language, and more)

  • The school entry and enrollment process: what to know and when to start

  • Practical steps to support your child’s development at any age

  • Tips for overcoming early school anxieties and fostering a positive connection between home and school

The open forum encourages supportive discussion and connection among parents and caregivers. It’s open to all families who have questions about their child’s readiness or the pre-k/kindergarten enrollment process.

Join us Thursday, November 13, 2025, from 5:30–6:30 p.m. at the Center for Arts and Learning (3801 Journey Parkway, Norman). The event is free and open to the public.

We hope to see you there!
