Norman Public Schools proudly announces that Longfellow Middle School principal Barbara Kinast has been named the 2026 recipient of the Friend of Foreign Language Award from the Oklahomans for World Language Teachers' Association (OFLTA).
The award recognizes leaders who champion linguistic and cultural diversity. Kinast was selected for her advocacy of world language education, including expanding access to Spanish I through a zero-hour course and leading efforts to launch a Multicultural Fair that celebrates and connects the Longfellow community.
“I am deeply honored to receive this recognition from OFLTA,” Kinast said. “World language education opens doors for students to see beyond their own experiences, connect with others, and better understand the world around them. I’m grateful to be part of a school community that values cultural awareness and global learning.”
Kinast will be formally recognized at the OFLTA Fall Conference. That date and time are still to be announced. Norman Public Schools congratulates Barbara Kinast on this well-deserved honor.
